🚨 At the 'Two Bends' area between Hunnasgiriya and Medamahanuwara on the Kandy - Mahianganaya main road, a lorry, which was running fully loaded with rice, veered off the road and rolled down a 250 feet cliff in the early hours of today (10/13/2026). Due to the speed of the lorry being unable to control the speed of the lorry on the sharp curve or due to brake failure, the iron safety fence (W-Beam Guardrail) and concrete boundary blocks installed on the left side of the road were completely destroyed and the vehicle rolled down the slope. The lorry that crashed into the trees on the cliff was upside down and crushed, and hundreds of bags of rice were scattered all over the cliff. After the accident, the local residents and the police officers worked hard to get down the cliff and rescue the driver and assistant who were stuck in the debris and took them to the hospital. Road Safety Lesson (Road Safety Lesson and Investigation) Runaway Freight & Engine Braking of Heavy Vehicles on Mountain Slopes: Due to constant use of foot brakes only when heavily loaded lorries are driven on hilly steep roads, the brake drum/liner overheats and brake fade occurs. In such roads, the engine speed must be controlled using low gears (1st or 2nd) and exhaust brakes (Exhaust/Retarder Brakes). Early Morning Sleepiness and Curves Assessment (Micro-Sleep on Mountain Curves): Between 3:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., drivers on winding mountain roads are too tired and sleepy to detect sharp curves in time. In such a situation, there is a high risk of the vehicle directly breaking the safety fence and being dragged down the cliff. Guardrail Deflection Limits: Steel guardrails installed on the side of the road are designed to control light cars, and lorries with a load of tons easily break and roll down the cliff in high-speed collisions. Maintaining maximum minimum speed in the mountains is the only way to save life. Call 1990 Suvasarya Ambulance Service immediately in case of emergency.

තියුණු වංගුව සහිත බෑවුමේදී ලොරි රථයේ වේගය පාලනය කරගත නොහැකිව හෝ තිරිංග අක්‍රිය වීමක් හේතුවෙන්, මාර්ගයේ වම්පස සවිකර තිබූ යකඩ ආරක්ෂිත වැට (W-Beam Guardrail) සහ කොන්ක්‍රීට් මායිම් කුට්ටි සහමුලින්ම කඩා බිඳ දමමින් රථය පහළ ප්‍රපාතයට පෙරළී ගොස් තිබේ.
ප්‍රපාතයේ ගස් කොළන් අතරට කඩා වැටුණු ලොරි රථය උඩුයටිකුරු වී පොඩිපට්ටම් වී ඇති අතර, එහි පටවා තිබූ සහල් මලු සිය ගණනක් ප්‍රපාතය පුරා විසිරී ගොස් ඇත. අනතුර සැලවීමත් සමඟ ප්‍රදේශවාසීන් සහ පොලිස් නිලධාරීන් එක්ව දැඩි පරිශ්‍රමයක් දරා ප්‍රපාතයට බැස සුන්බුන් අතර සිරවී සිටි රියදුරු සහ සහායකවරයා මුදාගෙන රෝහල්ගත කිරීමට කටයුතු කර තිබේ.

කඳුකර බෑවුම්වල බර වාහනවල තිරිංග අක්‍රිය වීම සහ එන්ජින් බ්‍රේක් භාවිතය (Runaway Freight & Engine Braking): අධික බර පටවාගත් ලොරි රථ කඳුකර දැඩි බෑවුම් සහිත මාර්ගවල ධාවනය කිරීමේදී නිරන්තරයෙන් ප්‍රධාන පාද තිරිංග (Foot Brakes) පමණක් භාවිත කිරීම නිසා තිරිංග ඩ්‍රම්/ලයිනර් අධික ලෙස රත්වී තිරිංග ක්‍රියාකාරීත්වය සහමුලින්ම අඩපණ වේ (Brake Fade). මෙවැනි මාර්ගවලදී අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම පහළ ගියර (Low Gears - 1st or 2nd) සහ එක්සෝස්ට් බ්‍රේක් (Exhaust/Retarder Brakes) භාවිතයෙන් එන්ජින් වේගය පාලනය කළ යුතුය.
