🚨 Colombo - Batticaloa A4 main road near Ratnapura, Thiriwanaketiya intersection (near Catandola mountain) today (13/10/2026) at around 06:45 in the morning two heavy cargo lorries traveling in the same direction from Badulla collided and an accident occurred. Lanka Ashok Leyland (Lanka Ashok Leyland) which was running in front tried to stop the heavy lorry, and the Tata (TATA) lorry that came behind it did not operate the braking system and it collided with the rear of the front lorry. Due to the force of the collision, the front driver's cabin of the lorry, the windshield glass and the left part where the assistant's seat is located were severely damaged. Road Safety Lesson (Road Safety Lesson and Investigation) Pneumatic Brake Maintenance & Pressure Loss of Heavy Vehicles: It is mandatory to maintain the air brakes and pressure gauges of fully loaded heavy vehicles in proper condition. Excessive use of brakes, especially when descending from hilly areas, can cause the brake pads to heat up and cause brake fade. Safe Following Distance for Heavy Vehicles: Since the stopping distance of heavy lorries is much higher than that of a normal vehicle, it is mandatory to maintain a safe following distance of at least 30-50 meters with a vehicle in front. Parking signals on main roads: When a vehicle is parked on a main highway, turn signals and hazard lights should be turned on in advance to inform the drivers behind.

ඉදිරියෙන් ධාවනය වෙමින් තිබූ ලංකා අශෝක් ලේලන්ඩ් (Lanka Ashok Leyland) වර්ගයේ බර ලොරි රථය මාර්ගයෙන් ඉවතට කර නැවැත්වීමට උත්සාහ කර ඇති අතර, ඒ පිටුපසින් පැමිණි ටාටා (TATA) වර්ගයේ ලොරි රථයේ තිරිංග පද්ධතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක නොවීම හේතුවෙන් එය ඉදිරිපස ලොරි රථයේ පසුපස කොටසේ තදින් ගැටී ඇත.
ගැටුමේ ප්‍රබලත්වයට පිටුපසින් පැමිණි ලොරි රථයේ ඉදිරිපස රියදුරු කුටියට, සුළං ආවරණ වීදුරුවට සහ සහායක අසුන පිහිටි වම්පස කොටසට දැඩි අලාභහානි සිදුවී ඇති අතර, එහි ගමන් ගත් සහායකවරයා තුවාල ලබා ප්‍රතිකාර සඳහා රත්නපුර ශික්ෂණ රෝහල වෙත ඇතුළත් කෙරිණි.

පසුපසින් පැමිණෙන වාහනවල ආරක්ෂිත පරතරය (Safe Following Distance for Heavy Vehicles): බර පැටවූ ලොරි රථවල නැවතුම් දුර (Stopping Distance) සාමාන්‍ය වාහනයකට වඩා බෙහෙවින් වැඩි බැවින්, ඉදිරියෙන් ගමන් කරන වාහනයක් සමඟ අවම වශයෙන් මීටර් 30–50 ක ආරක්ෂිත පරතරයක් තබා ගැනීම අනිවාර්ය වේ.
