🚨 An accident occurred yesterday (10/11/2026) at around 12:45 midnight when a small van (Suzuki Every/Carry type vehicle) which was driving towards Matara on the Southern Expressway (E01) lost control and overturned near the 80.5 kilometer post. Two other vans, Toyota HiAce and Toyota Roomy, which saw the accident, stopped in front of the overturned car to help the injured. At that moment, a private bus (Lanka Ashok Leyland) which was running at high speed in the same direction, hit the back of the parked vans and hit the guard rail and stopped, causing a serious chain accident (Secondary Chain Crash). The secondary collision caused severe damage to the two vans and the front part of the bus, and several people were injured and taken to hospital by the Highway Ambulance Service.
⚠️ Attention drivers: Avoid unsafe parking in the event of an accident on the highway. In the case of a necessary emergency stop, immediately turn on the hazard lights (Hazard Lights), get out of the vehicle and exit the safety fence. Controlling highway speed at night is essential to save lives.

Secondary Crashes on Expressways: Parking near an accident on an expressway is extremely deadly.
