🚨 A container transport prime mover, which entered the expressway from Iggurukade entrance from Colombo port premises and was driving towards Orugudawatta exit, overturned completely on the road today (2026/10/09) and a serious accident occurred. The Primemover overturned on its side near the Concrete Parapet Barrier on the winding section of the expressway, which was wet with rainy weather, either due to uncontrolled speed or imbalance of cargo weight. With the accident, the driver's cabin collapsed and the driver and his crew were trapped. The Colombo Municipal Fire Service Department and the Highway Safety Department rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped people using special equipment. Due to the accident, one lane of the highway section was completely blocked and a heavy traffic jam was created. Road Safety Lesson (Road Safety Lesson and Investigation) Rollover Threshold of Heavy Articulated Vehicles: The center of gravity of prime movers with fully loaded 40ft high-cube containers is very high. If you drive over the speed limit (30-40 km/h) while taking sharp turns on highway entrances or exits (Ramps), the vehicle will tilt and roll over in a few seconds due to the centrifugal force. Wet Surface Hydroplaning: As the highway surface becomes slippery during rainy nights, braking hard during curves increases the risk of jackknifing the trailer. Highway Emergency No. 1969: On seeing such an accident on a highway, immediately without stopping the vehicles on the road, immediately call the 1969 Highway Operations Room or the Fire and Rescue Services as well as the 1990 Suvasari and report the situation.

වැසි සහිත කාලගුණයත් සමඟ තෙතමනය සහිතව පැවති අධිවේගී මාර්ගයේ වංගු සහිත කොටසේදී රථයේ වේගය පාලනය කරගත නොහැකිව හෝ භාණ්ඩ බරෙහි අසමතුලිතතාව හේතුවෙන්, ප්‍රයිම්මූවර් රථය කොන්ක්‍රීට් ආරක්ෂිත බැම්ම (Concrete Parapet Barrier) අසල පැත්තකට පෙරළී ගොස් තිබේ. අනතුරත් සමඟ රියදුරු කුටිය පොඩිපට්ටම් වී රියදුරු ඇතුළු පිරිස සිරවී ඇති අතර, කොළඹ මහ නගර සභා ගිනි නිවන සේවා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සහ අධිවේගී මාර්ග ආරක්ෂක අංශ වහා එම ස්ථානයට පැමිණ විශේෂ උපකරණ භාවිත කරමින් සිරවූවන් මුදාගැනීමේ කටයුතු සිදුකරන ලදී. අනතුර හේතුවෙන් එම අධිවේගී මාර්ග කොටසේ එක් මංතීරුවක් සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම අවහිර වී දැඩි රථවාහන තදබදයක්ද හටගැනිණි.
"ආරක්ෂාකාරී රිය පැදවීමක් තුලින් මාර්ග අනතුරු වලින් තොර සමාජයක් බිහිකිරිමට, මෙම අනතුරෙහි ඡායාරූප විමසා බලා සිහියේ තබා ගැනීමට උපකාරීවනු පිණිස පලකරනු ලැබේ."

තෙතමනය සහිත මාර්ග මතුපිට සහ තිරිංග භාවිතය (Wet Surface Hydroplaning): වැසි සහිත රාත්‍රී කාලයේදී අධිවේගී මාර්ග මතුපිට ලිස්සනසුලු වන බැවින්, වංගුවලදී තදින් තිරිංග යෙදීමෙන් ට්‍රේලර් කොටස ඉදිරියට තල්ලු වී රථය පාලනයෙන් ගිලිහී (Jackknifing) යාමේ අවදානම ඉහළ යයි.
