A mini truck transporting fresh seafood overturned on the Southern Expressway near the 76th milestone this morning, scattering fish across multiple lanes and causing brief traffic delays without any serious casualties.
On the morning of October 19, 2026, a white light commercial mini truck (Tata Dimo Batta / Super Ace) transporting a fresh stock of fish and prawns met with an accident as it lost control and overturned near the 76th kilometre post on the Southern Expressway (E01).
As the vehicle was cruising along the expressway, the driver apparently lost control due to speed management issues or a sudden mechanical failure. The mini truck slammed violently against the protective metal guardrail before coming to a rest on its side across the lanes. The sheer impact of the rollover shattered the seafood-laden crates, sending tons of fish and prawns spilling across multiple lanes of the expressway, temporarily halting smooth traffic flow in that direction.
Fortunately, no fatal or severe injuries were reported among the occupants of the vehicle. Promptly responding to the crisis, the Expressway Operations Maintenance and Management Unit, alongside the Expressway Traffic Police, worked swiftly to clear the scattered seafood and debris, successfully restoring normal traffic operations.
Road Safety Lesson: Light commercial vehicles like mini trucks have a high center of gravity, making them highly susceptible to rollover hazards at speeds of 80-100 km/h if loads shift. When transporting wet seafood, sloshing water and shifting cargo can destabilize the vehicle during braking or steering. Always secure cargo properly and maintain safe braking distances on expressways.
