🚨 An accident occurred yesterday (10/06/2026) when a SLTB Horana bus belonging to Horana Depot, which had stopped to pick up passengers at Pokunuvita on the Panadura-Ratnapura main road, collided with a heavy commercial lorry (Ashok Leyland Lorry) traveling in the same direction. In this collision, the front left part of the lorry, the bumper, the grill and the windshield glass were severely damaged, while the rear bumper and body part of the Langama bus were also damaged. Although the passengers were inside the bus and at the stop at the time of the accident, they escaped unhurt and minor injuries were reported. Due to the accident, one lane of the road was blocked and there was a traffic jam. Safe Following Distance near Bus Halts: Passenger buses can slow down and stop near bus stops at any time to pick up or drop off passengers. Hence heavy lorries and other vehicles driving behind buses should always maintain a safety gap of at least 3-4 seconds. Braking Distance of Heavy Trucks: Since the gross vehicle weight of heavy lorries loaded with goods is high, when the brakes are applied immediately, a stopping distance is required more than a normal vehicle. Failure to observe the road ahead and lose focus is the main cause of such rear-end collisions. Discipline of entering the vehicle at the station: When stopping at a bus stop, it is essential to stop as far away from the main running lane as possible, and keep a constant vigilance for sudden stops of a bus in front of the drivers coming from behind to avoid accidents. මෙම ගැටුමෙන් ලොරි රථයේ ඉදිරිපස වම්පස කොටසට, බම්පරයට, ග්‍රිල් එකට සහ සුළං ආවරණ වීදුරුවට දැඩි අලාභහානි සිදුව ඇති අතර, ලංගම බස් රථයේ පසුපස බම්පරය සහ බොඩි කොටසටද හානි සිදුව තිබේ. අනතුර සිදුවූ අවස්ථාවේ බස් රථය තුළ සහ නැවතුමේ මගීන් රැඳී සිටියද, විශාල විපතක් නොවී බේරී ඇති අතර සුළු තුවාල ලැබූවන් පිළිබඳව වාර්තා වේ. අනතුර හේතුවෙන් මාර්ගයේ එක් මංතීරුවක් අවහිර වී රථවාහන තදබදයක්ද හටගැනිණි.
