A harrowing nighttime head-on collision was captured on a dashcam along the A15 coastal road in Poonagar, Echchilampattai, after an overspeeding motorcycle veered into an oncoming car's lane, resulting in severe vehicle damage and injuries.
A serious road accident occurred along the Trincomalee-Batticaloa (A15) coastal main road in the Poonagar area of Echchilampattai, when an overspeeding motorcycle traveling at night collided head-on with an oncoming white car. The incident, which highlights the grave dangers of nighttime lane invasion, was clearly recorded by the car's onboard dashcam.
According to the dashcam footage, the car was traveling at a normal and controlled speed within its designated lane when the motorcycle, hurtling from the opposite direction at high speed, lost control along a curving section of the road. The rider crossed the center line directly into the path of the car, leaving the motorist with virtually no time to evade the impact. The force of the collision caused extensive damage to the white car, completely crushing and deforming the front bonnet, bumper, radiator, headlights, and engine compartment. The motorcyclist and other individuals sustained injuries in the crash.
Local residents and security forces swiftly intervened at the scene to assist the injured victims, organizing prompt transport to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment. The Traffic Division of the Echchilampattai Police is conducting further investigations using the dashcam footage as crucial digital evidence to determine fault.
Road Safety Takeaway & Defensive Driving Lesson:
Nighttime cornering requires extreme vigilance. Reduced visibility combined with cutting corners across the central line on curved roads frequently leads to fatal head-on collisions. Drivers and riders must strictly maintain lane discipline and control their speed after dark. Furthermore, drivers should manage high-beam usage to prevent blinding oncoming motorists, while the installation of dashcams remains invaluable for establishing objective accountability in road traffic investigations. In the event of a road emergency, immediately dial the 1990 Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service.
