✓ Verified Incident Telemetry
A heavy container truck lost control on a steep hill-country bend, sliding backward into an SLTB bus. The bus prevented the truck from plunging into a precipice, with no major injuries reported.
A harrowing incident was captured on dashcam footage on a steep, narrow hill-country road, involving a heavy container truck and an SLTB bus. As the truck attempted to navigate a sharp, inclined bend, the driver was forced to take a tight inside line to allow the oncoming bus to pass. Due to the extreme incline and the vehicle's weight, the prime mover lost traction, causing the trailer to slide backward uncontrollably.
The trailer collided with the right side of the red Lanka Ashok Leyland bus, causing significant damage to the body panels and windows. While the impact was severe, investigators noted that the bus acted as a buffer; had it not been there, the trailer would likely have skidded off the road and plunged into a deep precipice.
Emergency response was swift, and fortunately, no passengers sustained life-threatening injuries. Traffic police arrived on the scene to manage the congestion caused by the incident. This event serves as a critical reminder for motorists: when navigating narrow hill-country bends, heavy vehicles require a large turning radius. Oncoming drivers should stop well back to allow these vehicles space. Furthermore, always maintain a 15-20 meter gap behind heavy vehicles on inclines to avoid being caught in a rollback. In case of an emergency, contact the 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service immediately.
