🚨 A serious accident occurred today (2026/10/07) in the Galkulama area of Tirappane police domain on A-9 (A9) main road when a private mini bus (Toyota Coaster / Mitsubishi Rosa type Mini Bus) which was transporting passengers from Nikaveratiya to Anuradhapura ran off the road and hit a tree. Due to the force of the collision, the front left and driver's side of the bus, the windshield, the roof and the front cabin were completely crushed and severely damaged. At the time of the accident, 14 passengers, including 12 men and two women, were inside the bus with serious and moderate injuries and were immediately admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. It is suspected that the accident may have taken place due to the sudden sleepiness (Micro-sleep) or high speed of the driver in the morning and the car could not be controlled and pulled off the road. Steps were taken to remove the bus that was involved in the accident with a heavy lifting vehicle (Recovery Crane).
