🚨 A serious car accident occurred today (2026/10/07) at around 11:00 am near the Kaduwela entrance of Colombo Outer Circular Expressway (E02 - Outer Circular Expressway) when a speeding white Land Rover Defender collided with a small box lorry (Nissan Cabstar / Light Freezer-Box Lorry). Due to the force of the collision, the lorry lost control and hit the guard rail on the side of the highway and rolled across the road. In the accident, the front part of the defender including the front left light, grill, bonnet cover and radiator was severely damaged, while the windshield of the overturned lorry was shattered and the front cabin and box part were also damaged. Highway maintenance and fire protection units rushed to the spot and blocked one lane of the road to clear the debris and restore traffic flow. Road Safety Lesson (Road Safety Lesson and Investigation) Expressway Safe Following Distance & Speed Discrepancy: When driving on expressways within the maximum speed limits of 100 kilometers per hour, a safe distance of at least 50-100 meters (3-Second Rule) should be maintained between the vehicle in front and itself. When heavy vehicles or small lorries travel in the left lane at a relatively low speed, the high-speed jeeps coming from behind do not keep the proper distance, which directly leads to such rear-end collisions. Kinetic Punch & Rollover Hazard of Light Trucks: Since the center of gravity of small box trucks is relatively high, the moment a vehicle with a thick steel chassis (ladder-frame chassis) such as a heavy defender is hit from behind, the lorry loses its balance and easily rolls over on the road. ගැටුමේ ප්‍රබලත්වය හේතුවෙන් පාලනයෙන් ගිලිහුණු ලොරි රථය අධිවේගී මාර්ගයේ පසෙක තිබූ ආරක්ෂිත යකඩ වැටේ (Guard Rail) ගැටී මාර්ගය හරහා පෙරළී ගොස් ඇත. අනතුරින් ඩිෆෙන්ඩර් රථයේ ඉදිරිපස වම්පස ලයිට්, ග්‍රිල් එක, බොනට් ආවරණය සහ රේඩියේටරය ඇතුළු ඉදිරිපස කොටසට දැඩි අලාභහානි සිදුව ඇති අතර, පෙරළී ගිය ලොරි රථයේ සුළං ආවරණ වීදුරුව කුඩුවී ඉදිරිපස කුටියට සහ බොක්ස් කොටසටද හානි සිදුව තිබේ. අධිවේගී මාර්ග නඩත්තු සහ ගිනි නිවන ආරක්ෂක අංශ වහා එම ස්ථානයට පැමිණ මාර්ගයේ එක් මංතීරුවක් අවහිර කරමින් සුන්බුන් ඉවත් කිරීමට හා රථවාහන ගමනාගමනය යථා තත්ත්වයට පත් කිරීමට පියවර ගන්නා ලදී.
